Background

The customer is one of the leading and renowned Indian diagnostic companies with a chain of diagnostic centers across India, South Asia, Africa and Middle East. The Company’s broad spectrum of services offer around 3,487 clinical laboratory tests and 530 profiles, with more than 50 Million tests performed across 125+ laboratories in 7 countries, collecting samples from 1500+ collection centers.

Challenges

The Histopathology process was executed completely manually in the laboratory. The end-to-end process involves collaboration between various Scientific Officers, Junior Pathologists and Senior Pathologists. It also includes performing focused activities on medical devices like Digital Pathology System, Slide Maker, and Cassette Maker etc. With large sample volumes being processed on a daily basis in the main laboratory in the country, the diagnostic company was facing multiple challenges including the ones below:

• Misplaced / Lost Sample Slides With hundreds and thousands of samples received from collection centers in the lab on a daily basis, samples were lost / misplaced because the end-to-end process was managed manually.
• Disconnected Systems -Numerous disconnected systems like Laboratory Information System (LIS), Slide Mate, Print Mate, Digital Pathology Systems etc. are involved in the end-to-end process. These disparate systems being managed manually resulted in errors and delays while processing large sample volumes.
• Unable to track performance -The entire sample tracking was accomplished manually. Details around volumes processed, First-Time-Right (FTRs), SLA compliance, TATs and performance of personnel / teams etc. were unavailable.

The management team in the Diagnostics company was facing massive challenges with sample management / tracking and user performance reviews while handling large number of samples.
